Provenance |
In June of 2009 the Leelanau Conservancy began restoration of the DeYoung Farmhouse on Cherry Bend Road in Elmwood Township. The Conservancy became stewards of the large farm and acreage and decided to restore the farmhouse instead of tearing it down. With the help of the Historic Preservation Graduate Program at Eastern Michigan University and staff at the Leelanau Historical Museum, a thorough inventory was done of the contents of the house before all the items had to be removed to facilitate much needed repairs. Sadly the roof had failed in many places and water damage and mold was prevalent. This accession is the small amount of items that our museum was able to accession. We would have liked to take more but long term storage was a problem. |
