2009.11.11 - The Home Manual of Canning and Preserving
A small booklet published by the Gunnard company, who also sold canning equipment. Filled with recipes and instructions on how to can and what not to do. Includes a recipe on the back cover to preserve a husband. The booklet was compiled by Gunnar Ahlquist, B.A. a noted canning expert. A few pages have been scanned and attached here.

2009.11.12 - Canning jar labels
A matchbook style 'booklet' of pre-gummed and perforated labels for canning jars. The existing labels in the package include grape, blackberry, apple, marmalade, crabapple. The booklet was sold for 5 cents.

2009.11.15b-c - Letter to Mr. DeYoung
Two letters written to Mr. Deyoung in reponse to his question about building a cement partion down the middle of his silo. On letter includes a detailed drawing of what the silo would look like if remodeled in that fashion. Is not clear if Mr. DeYoung did the drawing or if the MSU (Michigan State University) instructor did.

Baking pan - Black metal common square pan with oval metal handles on the ends. The handles are attached by two metal pins. Similar to pan in 1895/1925 Sears catalogs.

Bottle capper - A device used to put cap or tops on bottles; Made of metal with a rubber gripper base. It has a maker's mark that says "Freedman." There are three holes on the base for attaching it to tables; Handle is rusty and will not lower. Similar to bottle capper on page 403 of 1925 Montgomary Ward catalog.

Jar lifter - Device used for lifting canning jars out of the canner or pressure cooker. Pull ring at the top was used to tighten grips to lift a jar. Wood handle appears to have been painted red.
