Photo of "Smiling Thru" Fishing boat- "belonging to Wm. Carlson family" printed on front of photograph. Photographer unknown. Creator of caption unknown. It has been noted that the Carlson family never owned the "Smiling Thru" and the caption printed on this photograph may be incorrect. See Worksheet files for more details. The "Smiling Thru" was built by John A. Johnson "Big John" for L.J. Strayer of Northport in 1936, and then remodeled by Tracy Grosvenor to replace the "John A" boat as the North Manitou mail boat.
