This a detailed account of what happened to approximately 101 men during the American Civil War who were from the Grand Traverse area of Michigan, that served during General Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign in 1864. It follows the local men of Twenty-Sixth Michigan Volunteer Infantry, dubbed the "Lake Shore Tigers," Company K of the First Michigan Sharpshooters; and Battery G, First New York Light Artillery; from the Battle of the Wilderness, until the start of the Siege of Petersburg
