Lid to large basket. Round form. Weavers at center and outer edge. Splint looped handle at center. Band of curled splints on walls. No color discerned. Probably was the lid for a hamper type basket.

Black ash splint with sweet grass bound around rim. Two handles on the ends are splint wrapped in splint. Double-woven bottom, green weavers on slides with natural color warp splints. Written on bottom, "Ayres." Written in basket, "kps/85 cents."

Round, vase-shaped basket with braided basswood handle. Checker-woven walls have added over-woven splints from base to rim in alternative bands of blue, yellow, green, red, brown and natural splints. Base has reinforcement edge of crossed splints. Rim is edged with sweetgrass. " CaD 2.75" written on bottom

Circular basket. Walls slightly tapered, twill-woven in zig-zag pattern. Brown standards and weavers; bands of arrow pattern at top and base highlighed by the use of natural weavers. Braided basswood bast handles. Base is reinforced with double weavers.

Square-base basket with lid. Wicker-weave sides, with bands of wide weavers. Round form evolves at shoulder. Alternate blue and natural standards, wide blue weavers with alternating red, brown, orange and natural weavers. Braided basswood bast handles with dye tips, at the shoulder. Lid has band of curled splints, braided basswood handle.

Rectangular box with lid. Lid has a pair of satin stitch tulips (one white, one yellow) with brown satin stitch leaves and stem. Edge of rim is natural satin stitch saw tooth edge, alternative brown and white pattern. Edges is sweet grass sewn with natural-color thread. Fully quilled base repeats alternating pattern of white and brown quills. Inside base is written in pencil "Susan Miller".

Round quill box. two rows of undyed quills around bottom of box. lid has single row around outside and stary design on top with six points alternating red dyed quills and undyed qills. star is surrounded by undyed quills covering top of box.

Round basket with open top. Step-down base and interior sewing accouterment baskets. Basket walls are wicker weave with design of sweet grass cordage weavers and bands of curled splints. Two braided sweet grass handles. Rim is edged with sweet grass and splint. (5) Interior baskets for scissors, thimbles, misc. ,and satin covered pin cushion. Edge of base is reinforced with rim of crossed splints. Natural color splints and faded sweetgrass. Has "b y" written on the base. Baskets belonged to Mae Pierson Behymer (1884-1951). Probably purchased at Sogge's or Smith's in Sutton's Bay. Mae was married to Oliver Behymer, they came to Leelanau County in 1918 and purchased a cherry orchard o

Square-base basket. Wicker weave walls, twill-weave base. Band of curled splints at the top. Carved ash reinforcment around rim. Written in pencil on base: "65." Original ownder of basket was Mrs. Mitchell of Northport. She gave it to Alma VanRaalte, who kept it for 40 years and gave it to a relative. June Soper purchased it from Vicki Hannel at a garage sale for 1.00$. Mrs. Van Raalte said she remembered the basket in the MItchell home as early as 1936. She had no idea who made it.
